JIM MOHR
ABOUT
Have a soda in the teachers’ lounge. Join us in sixth grade. Stay cute and sweet. You win a fifth-grade spelling bee and the offers pour in. But even at 11, I knew there was more to this moment than fleeting promises and instant gratification. I vowed to turn this modest victory into a career in advertising and earn the right to work somewhere cool. Mrs. Henderson, my teacher, had her doubts. I turn to you for validation. In the last 20 years, the ones I now like to refer to as exploratory, I’ve written for Ogilvy & Mather, Evans/Kraft, Taylor Brown & Barnhill, Bates Southwest and J Walter Thompson. I’ve worked on American Express, Mississippi Power, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Shell, Texaco, Raleigh Bikes, Continental Cargo and White Castle. And while the New York Festival medallions in their faux alligator cases and
the Houston Addy Best of Show trophies look cute and sweet on the shelf next to the commemorative pen the spelling bee committee handed out, I know there are even more interesting looking awards to be won.You can reach me at 713-880-9981 or at jim@mohrportfolio.com. But, please. Think about doing it soon. Mrs. Henderson was no spring chicken then. I’d hate
for this all to be moot.
